The Walk to Emmaus Overview
A Journey with Christ
While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and walked with them. – Luke 24:15
The Walk to Emmaus is an experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation that begins with a three-day short course in Christianity. It is an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ in a new way as God’s grace and love is revealed to you through other believers.
The Walk to Emmaus experience begins with the prayerful discernment and invitation from a sponsor. After one accepts this invitation they complete an application. The Emmaus leaders prayerfully consider each applicant and in God’s time, the person is invited to attend a three-day experience of New Testament Christianity as a lifestyle.
Following the three-day experience, participants are joined in small groups to support each other in their ongoing walk with Christ.
Through the formational process of accountable discipleship in small groups and participation in the Emmaus community, each participant’s individual gifts and servant-leadership skills are developed for use in the local church and its mission. Participants are encouraged to find ways to live out their individual call to discipleship in their home, church, and community.
The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities and places of work. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace-filled lives to be lived and shared with others.
Mission: Empowering Leaders to be the hands and feet of Christ
Vision: Fourth Day Leaders Embodying Jesus Christ
“I continue to dream and pray about a revival of holiness in our day that moves forth in mission and creates authentic community in which each person can be unleashed through the empowerment of the Spirit to fulfill God’s creational intentions.” — Unknown

The Men’s Walk is set for April 23-26, 2020. Please be praying about anyone you might sponsor since your personal invitation and witness of your own Emmaus experience can be very powerful in encouraging a pilgrim to step out in faith. Details on the Sponsor’s role are at: http://valleyemmaus.com/dev/sponsorship/
As you share Emmaus with potential pilgrims, be reminded that there is nothing secret about Emmaus. Our Upper Room Handbook and the booklet What is Emmaus?, both explicitly cover that topic. The Handbook states, “There is nothing secret about Emmaus. Even Candlelight, personal agape letters, and the community’s presence at the Closing can be mentioned when Emmaus is explained to a person being sponsored.” The Valley Emmaus Board encourages you to be open about the Emmaus experience and trust that these will all be powerful and fresh experiences even to the pilgrims who are aware of them.
Many publications that explain Emmaus are available from The Upper Room.

Women's Walk VEC #109: November 7-10, 2019
Women's Walk to Emmaus #109 was definitely "the best Walk ever"! God blessed this Walk in many wonderful ways. Thank you to the awesome team of women (and men!) who gave your time and efforts to serve in the conference room and "behind the scenes". You were truly "vessels" used to show God's love. Thank you to the Valley Emmaus Community for all of your support: sponsoring the lovely ladies who were pilgrims, supplying Agape items, offering your many prayers, and attending candlelight and closing. God's love and amazing grace certainly surrounded Walk #109! It was an honor and a joy to serve as lay director. De Colores! Cindy Robinson
